Paint 3D tile levels the way you paint 2D terrain. Pick a terrain (wall, ground, water...), paint in the Godot viewport, and Autotile 3D places the right mesh from your MeshLibrary, turns it the right way and updates the neighbours.

Try it in your browser above: left mouse paints, right mouse erases, 1/2/3 switch terrain.

Why it saves you time

  • Paint directly on the GridMap in 3D. No 2D proxy tilemap, no conversion step.
  • Rules look at 10 neighbours: the 8 around the cell plus above and below. Walls, corners, tees, cliffs, terraces and stacked levels just work.
  • Define a tile once. The solver tries all four rotations for you, so a wall set needs 6 tiles, not 16.
  • On surface painting: strokes land on top of whatever is under the mouse; erase takes the cell you point at.
  • Random variants with weights, stable per cell, so repainting keeps the same look.
  • Undo per stroke, rectangle and bucket fill, picker, brush sizes, separate left and right mouse brushes.
  • New set from MeshLibrary: name your items like wall_corner or ground_top and the rules are filled in for you.
  • Runtime API for procedural levels: set_terrain, fill_rect, flood_fill, batch mode. A 100 x 100 fill solves in about 0.3 s.
  • Nothing locked in. The GridMap stays a normal GridMap; remove the addon and your level stays.

What you get

  • The addon (GDScript only, no native binaries, runs wherever Godot runs, including web).
  • Runtime painter demo (the one above) and an editable demo level.
  • A demo tile set generated entirely by code: 25 tiles you can read and copy.
  • A README with the rule format, name hints and API, and a 41-check test suite.

Install

  1. Copy addons/autotile3d into your project's addons/ folder.
  2. Project > Project Settings > Plugins: enable Autotile 3D.
